The Magnetar UDP800 is a 4K UHD Blu-ray player that combines image and music playback in one device. It reads discs from DVD to UHD Blu-ray, plays network and USB files, and converts high-resolution music formats via a standalone analog section. This makes it ideal for anyone who doesn't want to cover home theater and hi-fi with two separate devices.
4K UHD and HDR without Compromise
For image processing, the UDP800 uses the MT8581 quad-core chipset. It supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+ and converts HDR content to SDR in a controlled manner if a display requires it. Color spaces according to BT.2020, BT.709, and BT.601 are processed correctly, and the player internally upscales lower-resolution sources to up to 4K at 50/60 Hz. For audio tracks, it supports Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, as well as Dolby Atmos and DTS-X.
Two DACs for Music Playback
For pure music operation, the UDP800 has its own analog section: two Burr-Brown PCM1795 converters handle the left and right channels separately, and a MUSES8920 operational amplifier is in the output stage. Lossless formats such as DSD64/128 and PCM up to 192 kHz/24 bit are supported, as are FLAC, ALAC, APE, AIFF, and WAV. Outputs are available both symmetrically via XLR and asymmetrically via RCA, and a dedicated Pure Audio mode reduces unnecessary signal paths in the device for playback.
A Power Supply That Ensures Quiet Signal
For amplifiers and DACs, a low-noise power supply is a basic prerequisite. The UDP800 uses a switching power supply with a specially designed 60-watt transformer, two-stage filtering, and several Rubycon electrolytic capacitors from Japanese production. This combination is designed for the short-term high power peaks that occur with surround formats and high-resolution music files.
Solid Workmanship in a Metal Casing
The casing consists of a brushed aluminum front panel on a double-walled metal chassis with a wall thickness of 1.6 mm and a 3 mm thick steel base plate. This construction reduces vibrations and self-noise during playback. The drive and power supply are additionally shielded separately to minimize mutual interference from magnetic fields.
Versatile with Disc and File Formats
In addition to UHD Blu-ray, the UDP800 also reads classic Blu-ray, BD-R/RE, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SACD, and CD, including recordable variants. Hard drives up to 16 TB can be connected via USB, and access to NAS storage via DLNA or SMB is possible in the home network. Anyone with a growing collection of silver discs and music files can cover both with one device.
